Welsh Black Cattle
Ynysfor is a small select herd, based in Nant-y-Cynnog, Llanegryn, in the south of the Snowdonia National Park.
Established in the year 2000 by Ken Ellis a'i feibion, the herd has experienced numerous show and sale successes including Supreme Welsh Black Champion and reserve Supreme Interbreed in 2010 with Ynysfor Rose 3rd at the Royal Welsh. Also, Female Champion with Ynysfor Gweno 3rd and yn Ynysfor Enfys 2nd in 2012 and 2015 respectively.
We strive for quality through selective breeding using knowledge gained with over 40 years experience with the breed
History
This wonderful breed of cattle have been an important passion in the Ellis' lives for many years.
In the early fifties Emlyn Ellis and his family moved to the Dysynni Valley to take up employment with the late Hugh Tudor and his wife Sarah at Rhydygarnedd farm, where by gaining a lifetime of experience breeding Welsh Black Cattle.
History
Subsequently, passing on all his knowledge to his son, Ken (pictured here judging at the Royal Welsh Show in 2011). Without any land of their own, they relied on the kindness of good friends who allowed them land to graze which allowed them to buy their foundation females in 1999. These females were purchased from notable herds such as: Brysgaga, Rhydygarnedd and Penwernhir.
